ABOUT

Theopolis Vineyards is a small lot vineyard and hand-crafted winery located in California’s prestigious Yorkville Highlands of the Anderson Valley.  Situated along Highway 128 in southeastern Mendocino County near the border of Sonoma County, the AVA is a highly elevated, rugged interior wine-growing area. Established in 2003, Wine Critic Robert Parker bestowed upon wine made from grapes harvested from Theopolis Vineyards a stellar rating of 94-96 points, a spectacular showing for the vintner’s first harvest in 2006.

HISTORY

Emboldened by the great fruit produced by the land, its owner and founder, Theodora R. Lee aka Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards, a bold and dynamic Texan and San Francisco trial lawyer, is now bottling her own award winning wines.  In addition to bottling the richly intense and flavorful Petite Sirah and Rosé of Petite Sirah, Theopolis Vineyards strikes a lighter note by bottling a Symphony, a white wine, which is a crossing of Muscat and Grenache Gris.  Theopolis Vineyards also bottles an Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, a Yorkville Highlands Pinot Noir and a Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir.

AWARD WINNING

Theopolis Vineyards is best known for its Best in Class, Double Gold, 95 Points 2013 Estate Grown Petite Sirah and its Double Gold 2014 Estate Grown Rosé of Petite Sirah. Additionally, the Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition has consistently given the Estate Grown Theopolis Vineyards Petite Sirah stellar Gold Medals. The San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition has bestowed on the 2014 Estate Grown Theopolis Vineyards Rosé of Petite Sirah a stellar Double Gold Medal. The 2013 Theopolis Vineyards Estate Grown Petite Sirah has won a Double Gold Medal and 95 points at the 2016 San Francisco International Wine Competition, which is considered to be one of the most influential wine competitions in the world. The September 2016 Issue of Somm Journal listed the 2013 Theopolis Vineyards Estate Grown Petite Sirah as Best in Class, meaning it is considered the best Petite Sirah in the world.  The other wines from Theopolis Vineyards including the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Symphony and the 2014, 2015, 2016 Pinot Noir have won either gold, silver and/or bronze medals at the San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition, the Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition, the San Francisco International Wine Competition, or the Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition. For example, in June 2017, both the 2013 Theopolis Vineyards Estate Grown Petite Sirah and the 2015 Yorkville Highlands Symphony won Gold Medals at the 2017 Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition. The Orange County Wine Competition is the largest and most comprehensive judging of California wines in the world. Wine Critic Antonio Galloni Presents Vinous also has bestowed on wines from Theopolis Vineyards 90 plus Points. Wine Enthusiast Magazine has bestowed on wines from Theopolis Vineyards 90 plus Points, and those wines are featured in the March 2017, February 2018, and March 2018 editions of that magazine.

THEO-PATRA, QUEEN OF THE VINEYARDS

Ms. Theodora Lee, a senior partner and trial lawyer at Littler, founded Theopolis Vineyards in 2003. In the wine world, Ms. Lee is known as Theo-patra, Queen of the Vineyards. Her passion for wine began upon her arrival to San Francisco from Texas in 1987, primarily due to the influence of her law firm mentors, many of whom owned vineyards. This led Ms. Lee to take several viticulture classes at UC Davis, before deciding to develop her own vineyard. In 2001, Ms. Lee purchased sheep land in the Yorkville Highlands of Anderson Valley, and began developing her vineyard. This process was quite complex from clearing land, doing soil tests, obtaining permits to remove some trees, drilling an agricultural well, and terracing the property. Finally, in 2003, Ms. Lee planted her 5 acre vineyard. Ms. Lee adopted her Greek name from pledging Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and established Theopolis Vineyards.

Ms. Lee and Theopolis Vineyards have been featured in various publications, including Forbes Magazine, Bloomberg, Sunset Magazine, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Sonoma Magazine, HuffPost.com, The Press Democrat, Essence Magazine, to name a few. Ms. Lee has made guest appearances on various TV and Radio Shows, including Check, Please! Bay Area, CBS News, Los Angeles Radio Station 94.7 The Wave, The Ryan Scott Show and On-the-Go with John Hamilton, to name a few. Recently, Ms. Lee was recognized as a 2020 Wine Industry Leader.

In addition to practicing law and making wine, Ms. Lee is a settlement commissioner, Early Neutral Evaluator, AAA certified arbitrator and mediator. Also, she is a contributing writer to numerous employment law publications and regularly appears on TV and Radio, including NPR and PBS, speaking on various employment topics. Ms. Lee is the Co-Board Chairperson of the Dallas Post Tribune Newspaper, one of the oldest Black Newspapers in North Texas. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of San Francisco. She is the Past President of Bay Area Black United Fund and the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and Past Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Legal Aid and the United Negro College Fund San Francisco Advisory Board. Ms. Lee is a graduate of Spelman College and the University Of Texas School Of Law. Prior to entering the practice of law, Ms. Lee worked as a Senate intern in Washington, D.C., for Senator Sam Nunn.

Wines we will be tasting…

2020 Gewürztraminer American Beauty, Russian River Valley

100% GEWÜRZTRAMINER

The newest addition to the TarponFamily, this Gewürztraminer is a part ofthe American Beauty series that celebrates oyster farmers.Fermented and aged in a concrete egg for one year, this wine is bone dry andbursting with floral notes, lychee, andpotpourri. The concrete lends a touch ofminerality not often found in domesticwhites. This wine was made specificallyto raise money and awareness forOyster South, a non-profit dedicated tosupporting the advancement ofaquaculture in the south.

2021 Cambaro White Blend, Clarksburg

Blend: 42% Verdejo/ 36% Sauvignon Blanc/ 12% Pinot Gris/ 6% Chenin Blanc/ 4% Muscat Canelli

This is an incredibly fun take on an easy drinking Spanish white wine. The Muscat Canelli provides intense aromatics, with

Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, and geranium on nose. Peppermint and lime zest linger on an entry that brings to

mind sipping sprite on the beach. Grated lemon and salinity complement a body that expands horizontally and includes

fennel, citrus blossom, and Bermuda grass. Finish of grapefruit zest and stone.

2021 Cambaro Rosé, Clarksburg

Blend: 44% Tempranillo/ 22% Syrah/ 16% Primitivo/ 8% Grenache/ 7% Chenin Blanc/ 3% Muscat Canelli

This rosé of predominately Tempranillo was picked early just for making rosé, and the freshness and acidity really shine. Grapefruit rind

and gummy peaches on the nose, followed by green strawberry and watermelon soda on the mouth. Sleek and dry, the finish has a touch

of salinity to complement red fruit and white pepper.

2021 Cambaro Red, Clarksburg

Blend: 28% Nebbiolo/ 20% Primitivo/ 18% Syrah/ 12% Tempranillo/ 9% Grenache/ 7% Tereldego/ 4% Chenin Blanc/ 2% Sauvignon Blanc

Using 90% carbonic maceration, this blend is a summer red if there ever was one. Translucent ruby in color, crushed cranberry

and red jolly rancher on the nose with hints of menthol and wet earth Smells like a laffy taffy store in an old beach town. Tannin is

light as you would expect from carbonic, but the natural tannins in Nebbiolo give it more weight than you might think at first sight.

Finish has pop rocks and baseball card bubble gum, but lingers with Nebbiolo style of Marciano cherry and rose petal. Throw this

one in the fridge and drink it year round.

2020 Rebirth Old Vine Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley

We fermented these grapes with native yeasts and aged the wine for 13 months in neutral French oak. Minimal punch

downs allowed the fruit to speak for itself and keep the tannins very much in balance. With a nose of fig jam and

blueberry rolling papers, the palate gives way raspberry soda and black pepper with a finish of forest floor and

red licorice.

Alyssa Wolf founded Red Wolf Imports in 2015 after a trip to South Africa. Realizing that US wine drinkers were missing out on some of South Africa's best, she set out to change that.

The Red Wolf portfolio is drawn from regions that are “underrepresented” in the wine world. In other words, wines that deserve to be a lot more popular than they already are. These regions offer honest wines that offer not only incredible value, but are also mindful of contemporary accountability, and leaders in sustainable wine and spirits production.

Alyssa’s passion for the beverage industry goes beyond sharing amazing wine and spirits with US wine drinkers. As a lifelong New York Jets fan she loves rooting for the underdog. Red Wolf Imports gives her the opportunity to support small businesses around the world: whether helping wineries gain access to the US market, or independent distributor partners to expand their portfolios, or providing boutique retailers with unique sustainably made wines to share with their customers.
